Slussen is one of the most important historic transport hubs in Stockholm and its future and configuration is of great interest to many of the citizens of Stockholm. Stockholm stad (the city of Stockholm) has therefore set itself a bold objective; that the new Slussen will become a meeting place of international calibre.
After 75 years of use, the traffic systems at Slussen are more or less obsolete, from a technical perspective. The area will have to be demolished and rebuilt from scratch and, as a result, it will provide an opportunity to update Slussen’s design for the various demands and conditions that will apply for the future. It is a complex project where several transport operators will meet in safe, inviting and effective environments, above and below ground, at the same time as it should be an attractive place for people to be in.
FSD has participated in the project design and planning of the new Slussen for more than 3.5 years. Assignments have included fire, safety and risk management in conjunction with detailed planning, tender documentation and systems handling. The project has brought on many challenges in order to ensure robust fire protection and proactive risk management work to meet future requirements with regard to functionality, economy, vulnerability and continuity.
