FSD develops total fire protection solutions for new and existing road, rail and metro tunnels:

• load-bearing and separation structures
• spalling assessment for concrete exposed to tunnel fire scenarios
Nominal fire curves for buildings do not properly reflect real progress of a tunnel fire. In particular, the heating rate and ventilation conditions differ considerably when compared to more realistic tunnel fire scenarios or standard curves specifically developed for tunnels.
Tunnel projects include 3-D fire models of a 5 km rail tunnel in Europe, evacuation analyses, thermal structural computer analysis including assessment of the spalling risk of concrete in several tunnels, including post-fire assessment in the Channel and Great Belt tunnels.
