Evacuation Models

Evacuation Models

Traditional prescriptive building codes typically express the evacuation requirements in terms of minimum numbers of doors, minimum door width and maximum distance to the nearest evacuation route. When applied to some of today’s more complex buildings, the result is often an inadequate solution regarding safety as well as architecture and economy.

FSD has an expertise in developing optimised evacuation strategies for buildings using advanced evacuation models, such as  STEPS. Computerised evacuation analysis is typically done in conjunction with CFD simulations to derive the relationship between evacuation time and critical time in terms of egress.
