Flammable goods are divided into gases, liquids and fire reactive goods. According to §7 of the Act (2010:1011) on flammable and explosive goods, a person who carries out activities subject to authorisation under this Act must ensure that there is adequate investigation of the risks of accidents and damage to life, health, the environment or property that may arise from fire or explosion caused by flammable or explosive goods, as well as investigation of the consequences of such events.
We can help you with the risk assessment, which should show that the flammable liquids are handled in a safe way, including proposals for risk reduction measures. The risk assessment should be a dynamic document and be updated on an ongoing basis.
When applying for a permit to handle flammable goods, it is normally required that a risk assessment be attached to the application documents, where the scope of the risk assessment can be adapted to the conditions of the business.
Depending on the type of flammable product handled, explosive atmospheres may occur during handling. According to §3 of the Regulation (2004:7) on explosive atmospheres in the handling of flammable gases and liquids, an operator shall take appropriate technical and organisational measures in the specified order to prevent explosions:
If necessary, measures shall also be taken to prevent the spread of explosions in buildings, process units and pipelines. An operator must assess where risk areas for explosive atmospheres may occur, which can be documented in an explosion protection document (classification plan) with associated classification drawings illustrating the risk areas.
