INCREASED FLEXIBILITY IN THE DESIGN OF THE BUILDING
And ensure that all relevant societal requirements are met
Usually, fire protection of buildings is designed on the basis of so-called simplified fire protection design. In this type of design, parameters such as walking distance to the escape route, the number of floors in the same fire cell and the maximum area within a fire cell are locked to values specified in the building regulations issued by Boverket (the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning). We can help you in this regard!
When using analytical fire protection design there are good presumptions to deviate from set values within the building regulations for some premises. This will increase the flexibility of the building. This could be, for example, premises with extra high ceilings, premises with big volume or premises where various fire engineering systems are installed (such as smoke ventilation and sprinkler).
A very useful tool in this type of performance based solutions is computer-based simulations of fire behaviour. These simulations allow us to analyse the evolution of fires inside the building in a controlled way, and to test the best measures to reduce their consequences. Fire simulation provides increased flexibility in the design of the building, while ensuring that all relevant social requirements are met, a method that in some cases also results in a significantly less expensive solution!
